Oris was founded in 1904 by two Swiss men, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. They began the company known today for its performance and production of solely mechanical watches. Oris' watches are designed for aviation, car racing, diving and "culture." Each watch division has special features, making each unique and useful.
Made from titanium and designed to be water and pressure proof for the professional diver, the diving watches have features like a helium valve, a sapphire crystal, and an unidirectional rotating bezel. Oris is so popular with motor sports competitors that it became the sole sponsor of the BMW Williams Formula 1 racing team in 2003. Action films like Constantine, Gone in 60 Seconds, A Time to Kill, and After the Sunset have used Oris watches on their leading men. Oris promotes its culture watches with limited editions, designed most recently after jazzman Dizzy Gillespie.
